Over the past couple of days, I did something I haven't done in probably three years: I cleaned up the list of who I'm following. I started with 1,559, and now I'm at 650.
I've been feeling the pull to do more exploring and follow some new people and topics, but I wanted to consolidate and start from a sane, current list first.
Before anybody panics (or gets mad at me for being a clout-chasing weirdo): the vast majority I cut were inactive accounts.

In fact, the whole exercise was a somewhat somber reflection of nature and state of the Fediverse: at least half of the accounts I was following are people who aren't here any more. Most of those for well over a year. Around when I hit 5,000, somebody made a comment about what it must be like to have so many followers on Mastodon. I thought (but did not say), "Actually, it feels a lot like having 2,000 followers did. Turns out there was a reason for that.
