the other day I learned that what actually tells you how uncomfortable summer heat is is not the (relative) humidity (that weather apps give you), but the dew point temperature. If that is above 20 C, it's unpleasant outside. Unfortunately, most weather apps seem to give you the relative humidity and not the dew point (Merry Sky gives you both). Today I learned that there is an approximate but simple formula that (so my source said) gets the dew point temperature to within about a degree C: - subtract the relative humidity % from 100 - divide by 5 - subtract that from the actual temperature in degrees C Example: just now here it was 25 C with a relative humidity of 79%, so - 100 - 79 = 21 - 21 / 5 = 4.2 (double and move the decimal point) - 25 - 4.2 = 20.8 C. Am I going to go sit on the balcony? No, I am not.
