@zzt@mas.to @davidgerard@circumstances.run Not once have I *ever* talked to someone who likes gen AI to have them open with "it's interesting you have a different opinion than me, let's talk about it and maybe we'll both walk away with something new." It's *always* "haven't you read our pamphlet of 16 reasons why AI is amazing, yet?!" and they're *always* the same claims which were easily refuted like 4 years ago. I'm legit so tired of arguing against the same "AI learns like people" points from 2021...

@bryce@mastodon.brycedixon.dev @zzt@mas.to @davidgerard@circumstances.run @bms@mastodon.bsd.cafe since I am trying to have the same conversations and while a heavy user of the technology hopefully a bit nuanced about it observed over the years the following shift: if you are a bit more immersed in ai and maybe more cognizant of the current state of affairs, what you say can easily be interpreted as proselytism. for example, me trying to bring up the issue and asking people to take the impact of llms on the programming profession seriously was met with “you deluded hype-bro” in 2023. Basically any post I make with “this stuff seems to work and xyz” is met with “you brain rotten user of a lie machine” post, so much so that at this point I have zero interest discussing it outside of more ai-enthusiastic circles, not for lack of trying. I dont have any skin in the game, am currently unemployed (in no part because of llm slop code), but am very enthusiastic about the stuff im able to build and the discoveries im making, im very invested in finding uses of the technology that break its current social and political frame but never found any person engaging online, while its very easy in real life. I think that not looking more deeply into it as a developer right now, as it has such a deep impact on one’s labor but also expertise and identity, and dismissing/attacking those who do, is unserious. 🤷
