@thibaultmol@en.osm.town @chpietsch@fedifreu.de I have signup requests enabled on my instance. In recent months I've had so many semi legitimate looking requests that I can't even respond to them all. I trained a bot to filter out the fake ones so I can evaluate the ones that might be real people trying to join my instance.

@jcrabapple@dmv.community @thibaultmol@en.osm.town Do you really know how your bot decides which requests to flag? It might look at signals that do not make any sense or are unfair. I use this script to import a list of known disposable e-mail addresses: https://codeberg.org/datenfreude/emailblock On my server, this reduces the number of spammy registration by ca. 95%.

@jcrabapple@dmv.community @thibaultmol@en.osm.town @chpietsch@fedifreu.de For the ones that I might think to be real, I now also send a follow-up confirmation email to ensure that there is someone on the other end of that email address.
