Stopping every x kilometres makes sense most places and times. Sunday afternoon in rural France is a bit of a different prospect. Especially when we had 200km plus to do during the most recent Canicule / Heatwave.
Also super useful on National Cycle network / canal path ride from Birmingham to Aberystwyth - lots of shops off the path but very few on it

But a couple of routes I’ve investigated recently really challenge that assumption.
