For those listening to Ben and @daringfireball on Dithering, he was talking about nvALT, not nvUltra. nvUltra should be out in the next 2 months and is NOT open source. nvALT will probably be updated for Silicon around the same time, for those who prefer to just keep using it. NV has had some PRs submitted for Apple Silicon conversion, easy to pull from the upstream, if you know what you're doing and want to do it yourself. I'm confident nvUltra is different enough and better in many ways that will make it a worthwhile switch for nvALT users. We'll see.
