I think this is a solid analogy. It gives people the dopamine hit of "creation", but without any real connection to the art the "creation" plagiarized.
There's no emotion, no meaning, no skill, no mastery, no muses...it's a machine spitting out predictive tokens that teach the user nothing of value.
It's a slot machine that kills the planet and never has a payout for anyone but the house.

@MissConstrue@mefi.social Yes! One of the things I've jumped into since starting semi retirement about 8 years ago is creating things with my hands. It started with silversmithing and moved on to watercolor, printmaking, bookbinding, etc. The joy I get from these endeavors is researching and trying different techniques to improve the final product. People who use #AI to "create" are not experiencing any of that; they are not growing intellectually. There's nothing of themselves in the final output. #NoAI
