seeing my own post again a few days later, i'm deciding that it's actually probably a net benefit that there is a highly active programming language that has no filter on what they're willing to try. it's probably good for other, more opinionated languages like go, zig, and hare, that rust is out here doing literally *everything*, even if for the sake of providing a good example of why you should maybe not do that (and sometimes hitting on interesting ideas that *are* worth bringing into narrower scopes) anyhow, still happy with go
