Remember when you could carefully pickup the telephone handset of an other extension, put your hand over the microphone, and listen in on someones phone call? Good times.

@tomjennings@tldr.nettime.org One of my neighbors actually had a party line where they shared the same phone line with another household. If you wanted to make a call, you had to pick up the line to make sure you got a dial tone instead of a conversation. That was a very long time ago.
