Ultimately most of the process involved adding additional columns to data extracted from Fediverse Observer, most importantly a block lists from Federation Checker. From there, the hardest part was figuring out how to lay things out in a way that enabled instances with similar block lists to be placed in groups in a way that’s understandable. Have gotten helpful feedback so far, so hopefully the next version is easier to understand.
