@acb@mastodon.social It's a tolerable crossing but the DFDS ferries on that route have shite accommodations and lounge areas: they're about 40 years old. The Stena Line Harwich ferries are much nice but the crossing is only 8 hours—barely time to sleep and then you're being woken up for breakfast, like a trans-Atlantic flight in business class.

    @cstross@wandering.shop @acb@mastodon.social DFDs do North Shields - IJmuiden (18 hours on a 1980s ferry). Stena do Harwich - Hoek van Holland , a shorter journey with much nicer boats. We will ignore P&O. Personally, I’d like Rosyth to Hamburg. Operated by Stena.
