@PoetsOldBones@mastodon.social @knack@aus.social @nonehitwonder@tenforward.social so when you look at someone like, let's say, Alexander the Great - an imperialist who attempted global domination and engaged in mass enslavement, thousands of years before "capitalism" would be a word... what's your theory there? was Thutmose a capitalist? was dynastic Egypt a capitalist system? capitalism sucks, and it's a system that enables the worst in human nature to come out. but the problem is human nature. so build systems that fail well.

  • @Amoshias@esq.social @PoetsOldBones@mastodon.social @knack@aus.social I think that, fundamentally, we're all talking about the same thing. I'm saying we need a system that doesn't reward psychopathy, PoetsOldBones states that the current system is designed for harm (psychopaths love that about the current system), and Amoshias is saying we need a system that fails well, which--correct me if I'm misinterpreting--suggests a system with better failsafes in place, for example maybe a system that is a bit more psychopath-resistant..?

  • @Amoshias@esq.social @knack@aus.social @nonehitwonder@tenforward.social youre choosing single individuals as models for the entirity of human nature which is incorrect. Scientifically speaking, human nature is attuned to collectivism and adapts to material conditions. It isnt a set model.

@Amoshias@esq.social @PoetsOldBones@mastodon.social @knack@aus.social @nonehitwonder@tenforward.social What do all those empires—or political systems—you mention have in common? A pyramidal system of power. What happens if we replace it with a horizontal system? The end of capitalism as we’ve known it, the end of communism as we’ve known it. I don’t know if it will ultimately work, but it certainly won’t be anything like what we’ve seen so far.
