It's how you should back up most app data and contacts. You may want to back up the home directory in a more efficient way but it does work for that too.

It's missing many features we want and has a poorly designed user interface and experience but it works fine. It uses the device-to-device transfer mode which Google uses for their switching phone feature. It includes most app data.

Seedvault was created by a GrapheneOS user to provide what we sketched out as the concept for a backup app. However, it got defacto taken over by a project with an approach and priorities incompatible with ours. There's no hope of Seedvault becoming what we want. Once we expand our team further, we'll overhaul it and permanently diverge from it.
