So, my autistic folks, bit the bullet and called the mental health clinic to make an appointment. And once again bumped into the discrepancy that my scores and even the actual situation are pretty bad, but I'm pretty nonchalant talking about it, even joking with the nurse. Obviously, this causes all sorts of problems, as one's demeanor doesn't fit the seriousness of the matter. I know part of it is that I just process stuff through humor, and some might say maybe it's camouflaging or whatnot, but another possibility hit me here. I've noticed that when I'm taken seriously in this kind of context (or any context for that matter), I get positively giddy, I'm so happy about it, because it doesn't happen that often. Is *that* the thing here? Because I sure didn't joke with the social worker who sneeringly did not take me seriously yesterday. Are we just so starved of being taken seriously and listened to, that when someone finally does, no matter how su... banged up we are mentally, we get giddy with joy? Discuss. #ActuallyAutistic

@undefined_variable@mementomori.social i think you could be right that we are so starved of connection that any connection becomes valuable and enjoyable even when the circumstances are not great. I've definitely experienced this due to spending imence amounts of time alone that sometimes any contact and communication is good. I have in recent years, having discovered this, made alot more effort in connecting with people for that social outlet, hence I'm on here
