My parents refuse to write a will because "the state has automatic laws for this" and they don't realize that the probate court process is hell....

@birdpoof@mastodon.world @jessamyn@glammr.us If they won’t write a will, get them to do the bare minimum - get onto the title for any property they own, get added to their bank accounts (as joint), and ask them to switch the beneficiary on their retirement accounts, life insurance, and investments. There’s very little left over for probate once you cover those three things. Also, make the argument that completing a Power of Attourney and Will will help you make sure their wishes are respected after they’re gone.
