@Clutha@mastodon.scot Don't know about UK, but a quick search tells me that the bird death toll fron wind turbines is about one million per year in the US. That number pales beside deaths caused by predatory house cats, which is about one billion. As a lover of both cats and birds, I urge cat owners to keep their pets indoors. 🌞

    @Barbramon1@mas.to @Clutha@mastodon.scot Exactly! Opponents of wind power cite bird deaths, but a thousand times more birds are killed by house cats. And a similar huge number die from striking building windows. So while I’m all in favour of any way to mitigate bird deaths, those who cite these deaths as a reason to oppose wind power are being disingenuous.

    @Barbramon1@mas.to These are astonishing figures.

    @Barbramon1@mas.to Thank you for this and the above article. Off-topic, I know, but would you also have any recommendations re the figure on cats and bird deaths? (I've tried to search for a source before, but couldn't find one, and it's come up a few times here at home - cat and birb lover here at home in Ireland, too!) @Clutha@mastodon.scot

    @Barbramon1@mas.to @Clutha@mastodon.scot Likely tall buildings are worse. The fossil fuel sockpuppets talk up wind turbine issues and lie about solar panels. They ignore batteries. One black blade isn't a big expense, especially on new installs.
