@wbud@tech.lgbt my card doesn't tap, and I've never used the stripe, but I've had places insert it and charge me without requiring the PIN (though I think that only goes up to like $20 or $100 before it requires the PIN).
I haven't thought about disabling the magnetic strip, but it wouldn't have effected me thus far if I had.

@alice@lgbtqia.space @deviantollam@defcon.social I think the concern I have with the magstripe existing is that a chip reader gas pump can still be hiding a magnetic skimmer. I live in the third most populous city in North Carolina and many gas stations are still not using chip readers. Including the ones operated by the local grocery monopoly. I should see of my credit onion supports purchase limits. I can't think of anything that costs $1800 that I would use a card instead of ACH for. Which of course has its own problems...
