I have a PhD in biochem and by sheer luck got to work at MIT for a few years
There very much is a de facto board of people, MIT/Stanford professors, etc etc, who are in fact controlling a large amount of US science
This is a fact

@failedLyndonLaRouchite@mas.to They may control the research at their university, but I find it hard to believe they control all research at other universities and corporations that do research. Whereas the government office in control of grants has a very wide reach. When they are rejecting any proposal with gender, climate, or other banned keywords from our toddler-in-chief, that has a huge impact on what gets funded.
