This Mackintosh building grew to become one of the best-loved and most-admired buildings in the city, but it was badly damaged by a fire in 2014. Just as restoration had finished in 2018, it was again damaged by an even worse fire, which left as little more than a shell. Due to delays in insurance pay-outs, work to restore it again has yet to be started, and it's currently unclear if a full restoration will financially viable without substantial external funding.
