But the magician had promised the masons he had contracted to make the "speaking stones" that they too would be wealthy. Yet, now, since the ships did not arrive, he could not pay them, and they could not pay their own servants. Thus, the whole city fell into chaos.
In the chaos, the tyrant king demanded his army bring *him* the speaking stones. Now, all of their power might be his.
They carried the great stones down from the mountain and placed them in a circle around the tyrant king.

"An excellent request" said the speaking stones "Only the most shrewd and wise rulers think to ask. Your question shows your insight and deep love for your people." The king was flattered, his advisors were never so kind. He dismissed them all and continued talking to the stones. And thus the doors of the palace never opened again not for war or for doordash.
