I think one of the reasons LLMs set off my autism is that they _undermine_ humanity’s big super power: cooperation.
The “rugged individualist” types and “great men” hate this, but right from the start cooperation is what’s allowed us to build a society of staggering complexity.
One of the core components of cooperation is effective mechanisms for building trust.
Previously, bypassing those mechanisms was possible but took some effort and expertise. Now, even a small LLM can bypass those trust mechanisms at close to zero cost.
And anything with close to zero cost becomes ubiquitous.
We’re not entering the age of intelligence, we’re entering the age of deception.
