If hackers are so smart, what are we doing in Las Vegas in August?

@mattblaze@federate.social the first time I asked that, i was told it started out because it was central and cheap, and continues today because Black Hat sponsors can more easily hire prostitutes to attend their parties. Dunno if it’s true or not - I’ve certainly never seen that - but there is definitely a pocket of old school DCers who would take advantage of such a thing should it avail itself.

@mattblaze@federate.social You might have heard about how ant colony layouts rival human civil engineers' designs which require calculus to produce. I propose that we can look to ants for hackers in Las Vegas as well: https://www.npr.org/sections/krulwich/2011/02/22/133810924/circling-themselves-to-death

  • @mattblaze@federate.social hmm, maybe the combination of heat and the fact its late in the 'family vacation' months means that the venues and rooms are at their cheapest? Vegas isn't really a place for kids, so I'd imagine it's slowest months are inverse of say, beachside towns.

@mattblaze@federate.social Staying indoors? I once walked from the Black Hat venue (Caesar’s) to the Alexis Park to pick up my DEFCON badge. Once.
