@LawrenceGerald@poa.st @thefinn@poa.st I must admit I don't have a good timeline for who arrived in the US and when but that sounds about right. Seems a lot of Germans headed to Louisiana for some reason, I met a lot of German descendants down that way.

@Grumblesock@clew.lol @thefinn@poa.st Texas is young, but all the hardships made us into a distinct people. My family arrived in 1828. Failed Scots-Irish farmers began coming through the 1850s, which is about when the Germans began coming in numbers. They still speak German in some places in the Hill Country. Of course a lot of them settled in Mexico too, giving rise to Mexican beer. German and Czech immigrants brought their meat preservation techniques which is why Texas barbecue is so badass.
