usually used for italian style strong coffee. sort of espresso light (less pressure than a dedicated espresso machine).
not better, just for a specific flavor profile. not for the drip coffee/mr coffee crowd.
you can also do a credible cuban coffee with it.

Coffee is another one of those things where people invest bizarre amounts of energy telling others they're doing it wrong.
