RE: https://social.notjustbikes.com/@notjustbikes/117032291431471097 I don't want stations cluttered up with personal luggage and bags, people should leave their bags at home and just rent a public suitcase of clothes at their destination... If public transport is to be a viable alternative to cars, then it needs to be usable to transport people and their stuff in similar ways as cars do. That means some people will want to take their bike across the country to go for a bike ride somewhere. They may also need to move a couple of bags of stuff. Etc... 1/n

  • @quixoticgeek@social.v.st I think the main issue with the original argument is presenting the false dilemma between more luggage space vs. more passengers as a fact of life. That's the actual trap. In reality trains are already orders of magnitude more efficient than cars, take way less space than urban sprawl and wide highways, pollute way less and are way cheaper to society. So we can afford some slack. 👍

If there's no room on your trains for bikes and luggage, then you're system is poorly designed, and has no resilience. The purpose of public transport is to transport the public. And the public want to travel with more than a handbag... 2/2

@quixoticgeek@social.v.st why not just transport your psyche and rent a shared body 🤣

@quixoticgeek@social.v.st my shopping can take up plenty of room. When I go on holiday, my bike carries my luggage (not many hire bikes have pannier racks).
