You know about the Wright Brothers? They invented the airplane.
You know what their day job was?
They were bicycle mechanics.
Think about that for a minute. Bicycle mechanics had enough free time to invent heavier than air flight.
In the 1950s you could feed a family of four going door-to-door selling vacuum cleaners.
The job market isn't "bad", it's rigged. The "free market" where everybody has a fair chance, they made that illegal with regulatory and liability reform in the 70s and 80s. Then they moved out the entire productive capacity of the country to China in 2000. Then they imported millions of 3rd worlders to work slave-wages so they could keep enjoying their milk and honey even after they had chopped the country up and sold it off.
And sure you're fine, and I'm fine, we're smart motherfuckers and we figured out how to skip around this and catch the right waves.
But you know this is what happened, and you know that for the average person out there, it's Uber and 3rd jobs.
And there *were* off-ramps in the 70s and 80s, maybe even the 90s, but now that's all over. It's a one-way express and it's going to one place - an apocalyptically brutal civil war.
There's gonna be heads on pikes, there's gonna be borders, and there's gonna be pogroms. But at the end of it all, in like 2045, it will FINALLY be possible for the average person to raise a family again.

@cjd@pkteerium.xyz There is some truth to what you say, but I worked 2 full time jobs for 2 years along with a part time job on the weekends, then a job and a half for 3 years following that. My grandfather worked 3 jobs his entire life. My father was a chemist and worked a second job the first 12 years of his married life. In the 50's my grandparents had one car, a 1000 sf house, on a 1200 square foot lot. no a/c, no dishwasher, no microwave and they never flew on a plane. It wasn't as rosy as all that
