Three things:
⁃ Password management is a pain, as it involves manually editing .htaccess files
⁃ As a result, you end up giving one password out to the group of people, which makes for other social issues down the line if you just want to give temporary access
⁃ This will be used on iOS devices, and Safari's handling of basic auth doesn't save your username and password in the keychain, which means you have to type them in every time the session expires, which is normally at the worst possible moment. No, the apple password manager doesn't work either.
Yes, that last thing is an Apple problem, but I have a better chance of plugging something compatible in than getting them to change the OS any time soon.
