btw, how was your weekend? I smoked cherry tomatoes, and we made the yearly ikea road trip for my wife to buy some equipment for her classroom. most teachers take the summer off. My wife is... extremely dedicated, and meticulous about how she runs her first grade classroom. Her school is very reading-oriented. The reading program they have has multiple stories on multiple subjects. She has spent most of her summer preparing craft projects for multiple units WELL in advance, and printing out stories, dumping them into binders so that she can just pull the stories out, instead of relying on the technology. This is a direct reaction to studies that are saying the children have less cognitive function than they ever have before as a direct result of technology integration in the classroom.

she also dresses up for various lessons. Like, full-on cosplay As an example for chapters on the American revolution, dressing up as a queen to represent the English royalty, Paul Revere for the midnight ride, stuff like that. Kinda jelous of the kids. Never got that growing up. Frankly, I don't remember learning American history in first grade, either. But my memory isn't what it used to be.

@da_667@infosec.exchange I mostly just watched my city get smoked over the weekend...๐Ÿ˜… On the good side the wind is blowing the fires North for now, but if it shifts to southwest I'll have friends and family camping out at my place (I am far from the fires). Scary to see so much of the northside in level 3 evac status though ๐Ÿ˜ฌ https://www.arcgis.com/apps/instant/lookup/index.html?appid=337af083184c474d9d9181bb44f957b0
