@G33KatWork@infosec.exchange @tom_verbeure@mastodon.social why would we want new features in a display server? I want it to work just like it did 20 years ago, and still work in another 20.
FWIW, I'm with the KiCAD folks here. Wayland does things differently from every other display interface on every other platform, e.g. not having a proper absolute coordinate system, which to me makes it not a serious platform to target. I don't have the resources to chase these issues in ngscopeclient.
I'm probably going to keep running XFCE and X11 until Debian oldstable drops support for it, and hopefully things will have improved in Wayland / GUI toolkit land by that point and everything will Just Work(tm).

@azonenberg@ioc.exchange @tom_verbeure@mastodon.social HiDPI, HDR, variable refresh rates, fractional scaling, different scaling factors on different monitors with different pixel densities. All new features that didn't exist 20 years ago and I use all of them.

@G33KatWork@infosec.exchange @tom_verbeure@mastodon.social Somebody on fedi was working on a clean-slate X server reimplementation that ran on top of Wayland (not xwayland). This seems like a promising option to keep stable software working on distros that decided to break their display stacks for no good reason.
