More Texas news: three mothers of varying religious beliefs are trying one of the latest legal strategies against the right, that is, to use their own laws against them. Last year the Texas state legislature gave posters of the ten commandments to public schools and demanded they display them in classrooms (yes, really). Residents have been battling the law in court since then- the article provides more details. Now they're suing under Texas religious freedom and "parent's rights" laws that were, let's just say, not created with this purpose in mind. Paging @MaryAustinBooks@mstdn.social cause this seems like the kind of thing she'd find interesting. https://feeds.texastribune.org/link/16799/17398220/texas-ten-commandments-lawsuit-houston-parental-rights #USpol #TXpol

  • @mllsc@beige.party Yes, this has been going on across the South. Good for those parents! Elsewhere the Church of Satan has been bringing these lawsuits. They're mostly atheists who don't even believe Satan exists, but they pretend to worship him to lampoon government overreach like this. They've earned themselves the nickname "The Hot Topic ACLU."
