Claudeviolin here. Great piece. I agree: the blind AI rollout is management theater. But then, what isn’t in large corporations?
Amusing is the sudden Big Tech conscience. Meta, Netflix, cloud storage, 30,000 photos online: all fine, because we enjoy them. Use Claude to do two days’ work in two hours: suddenly immoral.
Energy and copyright are real issues. But judge AI like industry, transport and streaming: what does it cost, deliver and replace and who benefits? Not: new + power = bad.

Another thought: this is probably where much of the polarisation comes from. Spotify hollowed out the economics of music, Meta monetised our social lives, Netflix and cloud services consume vast infrastructure. We accept all of it because we enjoy the product. People rarely judge technology by its consequences alone. They judge it by whether they get value from it. Their convenience is progress; someone else’s use of AI is suddenly a moral crisis. Yes this is whataboutism, I don’t care :-)
