"depends entirely on your definitions" - all of which can be found in Maths textbooks ๐
"we don't have a global standard for these definitions" - yes we do! In Maths textbooks ๐
"people would still be confused about 1รทab" - people who aren't using Maths. People on socials getting confused doesn't matter 1 iota
"the source of confusion go away" - doesn't make people stop forgetting you mean
"their scope is entirely unambiguous" - as are operators, the rule of Left Associativity

@bemmesr@mathstodon.xyz "we need to indicate its scope by relying on brackets" - no we don't. Term on the left divided by the term on the right "suggest that we use the form โ((ฯ)รท(ฯ))โ" - and of course, you are suggesting using that with + and - as well, for the exact same reason (equal precedence). Good luck getting ANYONE to agree with you about writing 10 times as many brackets for simple calculations ๐ "the brackets leave no room for confusion" - the RULES OF MATHS already leave no room for confusion ๐
