@G33KatWork@infosec.exchange I’m a pedestrian Linux desktop user, just generic Ubuntu, and I have no clue how Wayland is supposed to be useful for me?

@tom_verbeure@mastodon.social It's a more modern architecture that aligns better with how modern GPUs work. X11 is from the 80s and modern concepts have just constantly been piled up on top of an old architecture. By now even the Xorg developers themselves only do maintenance anymore and don't add new features. There's Xlibre, but well... It's not that you benefit immediately from it as a user. It's plumbing. But everyone is moving away from X11. Asahi Linux for example doesn't even bother supporting it on ARM Macs. They tried, saw it was too hacky and moved on to exclusive Wayland support.
