Tale a glimpse into to life of Black people (French source; I’ll provide an English summary):
At the 2026 World Powerlifting Championships in Lithuania, Belgian athlete Sonita Muluh lost her chance to win the world title after her final squat attempt (334 kg) was ruled invalid. During the lift, one of the five spotters briefly placed his knee under the barbell, which the judges interpreted as outside assistance, requiring the attempt to be disqualified. 1/3

Initially, Muluh publicly defended the spotter, believing the incident had been an honest mistake. However, about five weeks later, the spotter, Ernestas Kusinas, posted messages on Instagram admitting that he had acted deliberately. He wrote that he was racist and had intentionally sabotaged her because he hated Black people. 2/3

@AwetTesfaiesus@mastodon.social I have seen this story from another black power lifter who also had this spotter in one of his competitions. Makes me sad in 2026 people like this still exist

@AwetTesfaiesus@mastodon.social and she initially defended him thinking it was an error 🤦♀️ on his part!
