Initially, Muluh publicly defended the spotter, believing the incident had been an honest mistake. However, about five weeks later, the spotter, Ernestas Kusinas, posted messages on Instagram admitting that he had acted deliberately. He wrote that he was racist and had intentionally sabotaged her because he hated Black people. 2/3

Muluh, who is of Cameroonian descent, said she was shocked by the confession, explaining that although she had experienced racism before, she had never encountered anything like this in sport. The Lithuanian Powerlifting Federation responded by imposing a lifetime ban on Kusinas, stating that his behaviour was fundamentally incompatible with the sport’s values and standards. Nevertheless, the sanction cannot undo the loss of Muluh’s world title. 3/3
