@Savagejen@mastodon.social @leadegroot@bne.social I don’t know if it’d apply to stateless people, but there are governments that will take money in exchange for “housing” migrants that can’t be deported. The previous Tory government here in the UK tried to pay Rwanda to house unprocessed asylum seekers in “hotels”, but they lost a legal challenge and the current government reversed it. Italy has a similar arrangement in place with Albania. I believe the US government currently pays El Salvador to imprison expelled/deported migrants that it claims have ties to cross-border drug smuggling.
