Hank Green has written a statement about his LLM usage - and there's an interesting thing hidden in there about the addictiveness of LLMs? A lot has been said about LLMs giving incompetent people the feeling of competence But I think there's also something about what it does to competent, or at least previously competent people. People who've needed to moved into more management/coordination positions suddenly getting the dopamine rush of being a do-er and maker again And I'm always a little bit suspicious about addiction/dopamine explanations - but I do think the LLM workflow does hack it a bit. One gets to be more 'in control' than if they were directing a subordinate. And they're showing a bunch of mild addiction like behaviours. Defensiveness and impatience when forced to deal with actual people. Irritability when they are pulled away from their super productive dopamine producing workflow
