It's kind of funny, and kind of sad, that the people who predicted LLMs would plateau as a technology just underestimated how many resources the powers-that-be were willing to throw at them.

I was one of them once like 2 years ago. I still think they've plateaued in some ways, but it's pretty undeniable that they are now starting to deliver on some promises, like the ability to find chinks in digital armor or produce lots of mostly-working code very fast or do novel, interesting mathematics. At the measly expense of truly ridiculous amounts of compute and data collection.
