A cool thing about having my own router with OpenWrt instead of the completely locked one from the ISP is that I get a log showing a lot of PPPoE timeouts and reconnections. This looks as reliable as the previous ISP just before they found their infrastructure unsalvageable. Maybe I need technologies that would accept a minute or more of lower layer unavailability, so I wouldn't be getting e.g. errors from Mastodon not being able to send a post, or the email client hanging on broken connections.
