ive noticed sometimes in social situations cis people will seem to actively look for reasons to hate a trans person that makes their hatred socially acceptable. like one slight and then you're out kind of thing. and then once the trans person has made a mistake, the response is almost carceral in nature even if the cis people responding are leftist am i hallucinating this? im a cis gay guy but even i have noticed it

  • @gavi@bagel.ing you are not hallucinating it. i see it on reddit all the time. rhe second people are given an opportunity to complain about trans people without seeming transphobic rhe flood gates are open. i have posted several threads here where i felt so genuinely uncomfortable. people complaining about the hyperfem phase and how annoying it is being asked simple questions like what do you use to wash your hair and what kind of lipstick do you think matches me. people will go on and on about how being a girl is not about being feminine or like how they wish they had their "friend" back who didn't constantly "obsess" about styling her hair.

@gavi@bagel.ing No you are absolutely right. I think this applies to all trans people, but this is also a common expression of transmisogyny, the extreme expectations of being nurturing, being docile etc and then the very violent reaction when a transfem person doesnt comply with those expectations. Sadly this isnt limited to cis people, trans people also do it because of internalised transmisia and intracommunity bigotry.

@gavi@bagel.ing Its extremely common. Its why when a trans creator does something not many people would bat an eye at regularly, they get piled on to like crazy online. The anti-trans hate machine takes very, very little spark to start running. Its why we have a hardline "Do not do social murder here" rule on wolp.chat

@gavi@bagel.ing there are also two flavors to this the first way is "just" making a big deal out of a relatively tiny issue, like you pointed out and then there's a version where people will start to say borderline (or fully) transphobic things, but justifying it as "they're bad because XYZ so they deserve it". e.g., switching to they/them for all trans people they don't like, people misgendering Caitlyn Jenner

@gavi@bagel.ing happens all the time. unfortunately happens intracommunity too with trans people thinking they can get ahead by purging anyone who missteps.
