Is there a tool that reasonably compares photos (which may not have identical names, and may or may not actually be identical) and sorts out the duplicates by quality? I have about a Tb of unsorted family photos straight from digital cameras, and I need to back them up, but I also need to conserve disk space, because of the fucking oligarchs. Also, what would be the best storage method/medium for reliable long-term storage? #photography #beginnerQuestions

@androcat@toot.cat there is tools that can compare photos, easy task if the checksum is still the same. There is also tools that can compare photos based on the photo itself, so resized and changed checksum should still be able to be detected as the same photo. Other than that keep two backups, not just one drive and test/check it regularly I guess. I have so many TB of drives spinning somewhere that storage was never an issue, but I did cleanup some file like this before. It all takes a long time. Really long.
