Now that I'm trans, every time I have an important realization about myself I think "how did THIS take longer for me to come to terms with than being trans?"

@aens@transfem.social for me, a lot of this has been simply because I've been exposed to more and different kinds of folks since I realized I was trans and started hanging out with other trans folks. The best example of this is autism. I was never close with anyone with autism, and most of what I knew about it came from my mom who used to work at a school for folks with developmental disabilities, including some folks with high needs autism. So I was convinced I couldn't have autism because I wasn't like all those folks with high needs autism, I was just weird. Then, when I realized I was trans, I started associating online with trans folks, a lot of whom have autism. And the more I learned about what autism actually is like, the more I realized that I am very obviously very autistic lol
