Edmonton Theatre: Until Aug 2: The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Broadway comedy musical) is at the Citadel. $40-125. There are also a few shows at the Grindstone and RapidFire comedy theatres, and at Jubilations dinner theatre. But most of Edmonton's theatre community will be getting ready for The Fringe (Aug 13-23).

Friday, July 31: Sweet-voiced indie-pop from Erin Dunn at the Carrot. 7pm, $10 (kids $5). Mellow alt-rock, psychedelic grooves, and arena-worthy folk contemplations from Mya Hill Band, Second Mirror, and Mutton Wolf (AKA Keltie Monaghan) at Starlite Room's Temple stage. It's allegedly Katie's birthday party, but you don't need to know Katie to go. 7pm (doors?), $18. Fun poppy R&B & funk from Funkafeelya at The Commercial. 9:30pm, $9, 18+.
