I had a bit of a surprise peeking into the guts to look at the magnetic heads.
Head 0, on the bottom, appears to be in some sort of black pedestal. I'm not sure what's up with that.

The belt seems to be in good shape. On the drive wheel there's a strobe pattern. I believe the idea is that a 60Hz or 50Hz strobe will "freeze" one of the corresponding patterns in place, so you can perform adjustments without specialized equipment.
