The usual story about a lightbulb conspiracy isn't quite right: http://maurycyz.com/misc/tungsten/

@nothacking@infosec.exchange This is an interesting read because it explains tradeoffs most people including me did not known about. It's also a disappointing read because it does not even mention environmental impact.

@nothacking@infosec.exchange Wrote this (Swedish) post about these trade-offs in 2017. There is a reason why we already in the 1930s had started phasing out incandescent lamps for applications demanding more light, in favor of discharge lamps. https://static-dust.klpn.se/posts/2017-01-16-ljus.html

@nothacking@infosec.exchange This post seems to be willfully misinterpreting the argument a bit. No mention of Dubai's LED lightbulbs at all, despite LEDs being the kind of bulb (sorry, "lamp") that most people use now. The planned obsolescence isn't in the fine print, it's quite blatantly out in the open. Why defend the lightbulb industry without once acknowledging this blatant example of them doing exactly the behavior, today, right now, that you are defending them from doing 100 years ago?
