@kilroy_was_here@dobbs.town @croyle@wandering.shop @tsherrygeo@m.ai6yr.org from everything I’ve heard, the starter advice I wish I had gotten when I got my General ticket two years ago would be to just get one of these as a starter HF rig. At USD 600 that’s Xiegu money, you get 6m and a detachable face. You don’t want an ATU when learning the ins and outs of HF antennas, but the 100 watts will prevent a lot of early frustration
I don’t have one yet, but want that as a perfect pairing to the no nonsense FTM-150RASP, which despite having menus has the right number of knobs

@flyingsaceur@ioc.exchange @croyle@wandering.shop @tsherrygeo@m.ai6yr.org Small enough to take with you too, and at home, connect it to the computer and have the control panel of the radio be as big as your computer screen.

@flyingsaceur@ioc.exchange @kilroy_was_here@dobbs.town @tsherrygeo@m.ai6yr.org My first HF rig was an Icon 718, another simple, compact 100W HF rig. I loved that one too and worked many countries with it despite a savagely-compromised rooftop antenna and being a total noob. It was around the same price point, back in the day. IIRC they still sell it but the price has gone up some.
