The thing is, the US military isn't meant to win wars. It couldn't fight one if it had to. All this talk about protecting Taiwan or whatever? It's bullshit.
The US military is a paper tiger and everyone knows it. It's the loaded gun which Old Man America drunkenly points at the rest of the world.
If we can't "solve" a problem with a naval blockade or by bombing civilians or sending a SEAL team to kidnap / assassinate a foreign leader, the US is out of ideas.

As we've seen in Iran, the US lacks the missile stockpile to carry out an extended bombing campaign and air power alone can't force a surrender. Part of the reason why is US military hardware is excessively expensive as a gift to corporate contractors. The US doesn't have the manpower to fight a real war either and the government is deathly afraid of deploying ground troops because mass casualties are politically untenable. So we bomb 'til we can't no more.
