When 71% of the planet's avian biomass is in the form of farmed poultry rather than wild birds, maybe the most sensible solution is to farm fewer of them, you know?

@afewbugs@social.coop not sure how accurate it is, but I remember reading somewhere that the domestic chicken is the world's most common bird species..

@afewbugs@social.coop In my British childhood, we only had chicken about once a year, usually Easter. In her 1963 book Cooking in a Bedsitter, Katharine Whitehorn wrote ‘Chicken is a word that still has a faint air of extravagance about it; but in fact chickens are now being reared so fast and furiously that they are now often cheaper than good meat. This has been the case in America for years’.
