@afewbugs@social.coop In my British childhood, we only had chicken about once a year, usually Easter. In her 1963 book Cooking in a Bedsitter, Katharine Whitehorn wrote ‘Chicken is a word that still has a faint air of extravagance about it; but in fact chickens are now being reared so fast and furiously that they are now often cheaper than good meat. This has been the case in America for years’.
