Between fires, floods, industrial accidents, earthquakes, war and surely other things I’m forgetting, a lot of people have had to evacuate this year. I’ve noticed many “go bag” checklists tend to lack detail around pet supplies, so thought I’d post some suggestions based on my cat’s go bag. (He, of course, expects me to carry it for him :neocat_bottom: ) What you need will vary based on your type of pet of course, but hopefully this gets you thinking around the various categories. Do what you can to include comfort items - your pet is going to be anxious just as you are.

First off, give some thought to where you would be likely to evacuate TO. For me, we are almost certainly going to be at friends/family homes or a hotel. But many people need to head to disaster shelters. Those, in turn, are often schools or the like (in the US at least) and the policy on pets vary. Awareness of the fact that many people will avoid shelters - and sometimes refuse to evacuate at all - if their pets aren’t welcome has been growing over the years, but that doesn’t mean your pet will necessarily be able to stay with you. For example, some areas have smaller pets like cats/dogs stay at local humane societies. 2/
